One of the fastest growing plastic surgery procedures at our practice is the Brazilian butt lift. At St. Louis Plastic Surgery, my colleagues and I have been seeing an increase in patients asking about the details of the procedure, whether they are an ideal candidate, and how long results typically last.
Brazilian butt augmentation is an effective option for patients who want to improve the size and/or shape of their buttocks to better suit their body’s proportions. For many, exercise alone cannot create the ideal silhouette of their dreams. This procedure redistributes fat from the patient’s own body to enhance existing curves and provide volume for full, even contouring.
In this blog post, I’d like to review the Brazilian butt lift process from start to finish to help you determine if this surgery may be right for you and your aesthetic goals.
The Procedure
Brazilian butt augmentation is an ideal option for patients looking to increase the size or alter the shape of their buttocks—using their own unwanted fat. During surgery, fat is collected via liposuction from the flanks, abdomen, back, or thighs. Once it has been collected, the fat is purified and injected into the buttocks at various depths to create an even, enhanced shape that implants alone cannot achieve. Ideal candidates are those in good health and have ready stores of body fat for use during the procedure.
Recovery Time
As with any plastic surgery procedure, recovery is an important part of the Brazilian butt lift process. I typically advise patients not to sit or lie on their back for 2 to 3 weeks, during which time they wear a compression garment to minimize swelling and create smooth contours. Most patients typically return to their normal activities after 4 weeks, though your surgeon will give you a personalized timeline.
Your Results
Barring any significant changes in weight, you can expect a long-lasting result of fuller, rounder, curvier buttocks. Though some of the fat deposited may be metabolized by the body, most of it will be retained and hold its volume. Some women choose to combine their procedure with a breast augmentation for an hourglass figure effect to balance their new waist-to-hip ratio.
If genetic factors are making it difficult for you to achieve the curves you dream of, a Brazilian butt augmentation may be an ideal option for you. When you come in for a consultation, I will be happy to discuss any further questions you may have—as we create a custom treatment plan for your specific goals.
