ENERGY TREATMENTS

At St. Louis Cosmetic Surgery’s medical spa, we offer two treatments that use energy to enhance your appearance. Our IPL Photofacial treatment is used to erase the appearance of sunspots, redness, and other skin concerns, while our Coolsculpting system is used to eliminate fat cells in trouble spots. You can find more information about these treatments below, and don’t forget to sign up for Alle so you can earn rewards on your treatment procedures.

IPL PHOTOFACIAL

IPL PHOTOFACIAL
WHAT IS IPL PHOTOFACIAL?
IPL or Intense Pulsed Light is an advanced skincare treatment to erase the appearance of sun spots, redness, uneven skin tones, and acne. As the intense pulsed light penetrates the skin, new collagen begins to form and will even out your skin pigmentation.

IPL RECOVERY

IMMEDIATETLY AFTER
WHAT TO EXPECT

Immediately after an IPL treatment, you can expect some redness and the feeling of a slight sunburn on your skin

ONE WEEK
WHAT TO EXPECT

The targeted brown spots will lift to the surface and begin to scab over. It is important not to pick these spots and to allow them to fall off over the 7-10 day period.

TWO WEEKS
WHAT TO EXPECT

At two weeks, you will see your tightest and brightest skin. You will be loving your results.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IPL helps to treat wrinkles, dark spots, age spots, freckles, birthmarks, veins, and rosacea. It also treats sun-induced freckles, benign brown pigment, red spots and large blood vessels.

After treatment, you should avoid retinols for two weeks, and artificial and natural sun exposure for a minimum of four weeks (including spray tans).

Results are best with a series of treatments. We recommend 3-5 treatments to see the best results.

The treatment duration depends on the specific targeted treatment area. If the area is small it could only take 15-20 minutes. For a full face, it could take up to an hour.

For maximum results we recommend at least 2-3 treatments.

During your IPL treatment, you will feel a slight snapping sensation with each pulse. We apply a cooling roller and a calming cream after. Post-treatment, your skin will feel sunburned.

The targeted brown spots will get darker (a good sign) then they will lift to the surface and shed in about 7-10 days. You will look like you’ve been in the sun too much, but it is easy to cover up with makeup. You may resume to normal activities, just avoid sun exposure.

No sun tan, self-tanners or bronzers. This treatment is not as effective if you have a tan- in fact, you may even burn. You should stop all photosensitive medications and retinol two weeks prior to treatment.

COOLSCULPTING

COOLSCULPTING
WHAT IS A COOLSCULPTING?

Coolsculpting is the only FDA approved non-surgical fat-freezing treatment that is scientifically proven to reduce pockets of fat in trouble spots. This treatment is not a weight loss tool, it is a non-surgcial treatment to freeze away fat cells. Coolsculpting is a great treatment for patients who are at their ideal body weight and have stubborn fat pockets to get rid of.

HOW COOLSCULPTING WORKS

COOLSCULPTING TREATMENT AREAS

One popular area of Coolsculpting is the abdomen. Many patients struggle with the abdominal pooch that is diet and exercise-resistant. Coolsculpting can help eliminate that trouble area.

The flanks otherwise known as the love handles are also a major problem area for patients. Take advantage of our dual system Coolsculpting and treat both lovehandles at once to eliminate up to 25% of those fat cells.

Depending on the case, Coolsculpting can treat a double chin. However, if your provider feels Coolsculpting will not benefit this area, sub-mental liposuction may be recommended.

COOLSCULPTING RECOVERY

IMMEDIATETLY AFTER
WHAT TO EXPECT

After treatment you may experience temporary side effects that usually go away within the next few days. These side effects include:  Redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, aching, cramping, and skin sensitivity.

ONE WEEK
WHAT TO EXPECT

There is little to no recovery time after a CoolSculpting procedure. Within the first week all minor side effects typically subside.

ONE TO TWO MONTHS
WHAT TO EXPECT

Results in the treated areas may be noticeable within three weeks of the procedure, but typical results are reached after two to four months, and the fat-flushing process continues for up to six months after the initial treatment. Certain people and areas of the body may require more than 2 treatments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

It is a non-surgical procedure that uses a patented fat freezing process, Cryolipolysis, to selectively target and destroy unwanted fat cells without harming nearby tissue. Once the fat cells are destroyed, your body naturally metabolizes and eliminates them.

As a noninvasive procedure, CoolSculpting is relatively safe. Common side effects during the procedure include:  sensations of intense cold, tingling, stinging, pulling, aching, cramping

It’s important to make sure your body is healthy and close to your ideal weight. CoolSculpting is not a weight loss solution, and very overweight or obese people are not ideal candidates. An ideal candidate is healthy, fit, and looking for a tool to eliminate body bulges

One session, on average, usually results in an approximate 20% decrease in fat cells from the treated area.  This treatment is indicated for individuals with a BMI of 30 or less.

TREATMENT EXPERIENCE

When you schedule a skin rejuvenation treatment consultation with one of our three medical aestheticians, Maryann, Monique, or Wendy, your goals will be discussed and a skin examination will be performed to decide which treatment path is best for you. The treatment starts with a cleansing of the face, and then the first chemical peel layer is applied. The amount of layers and time spent on the skin is determined by your medical aesthetician.
