Training & Education

Although Dr. Lund grew up surrounded by some of the best surgeons in Missouri, his path to medicine took a very different trajectory. Dr. Lund attended Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, where he graduated cum laude in drama and sociology.

Dr. Lund explains why he chose those fields of study: “I loved medicine, but I wanted something that engaged my other interests, which included the challenges of the arts and social sciences.” During his time at Tufts, Dr. Lund studied abroad in London and was a member of the Drama Honors Society.

Armed with this rich educational background, Dr. Lund returned to St. Louis to study biology at Washington University. While attending medical school at the same institution, Dr. Lund brought his love for the humanities with him.

He served as Social Director for two years and produced and co-wrote two class shows. At the same time, his studiousness and dedication to academic excellence also earned him membership in the prestigious medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.

After medical school, Dr. Lund went to the University of Texas, Houston. He completed both an internship and his general surgery residency there before returning to Washington University. While completing his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Lund was active in numerous research projects, including investigating the safety and design of synthetic breast implants.

Professional Activities

Dr. Lund is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has also served as president of The Aesthetic Society, the Missouri Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and the Washington University Medical Center Alumni Association.

In addition, he has taken on the roles of treasurer and secretary for the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society. He has also chaired numerous committees for The Aesthetic Society and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

He also advances his field through research, particularly regarding the use of implants in breast augmentation and breast reconstruction. Dr. Lund is also a featured contributor on RealSelf and The Aesthetic Society’s Smart Beauty Guide.

Patient Philosophy

Dr. Lund’s approach to plastic surgery is based on a fluid, lifelong approach. By blending surgery with customized skincare and nonsurgical interventions, he helps patients achieve their desired look both at their current stage of life and with an eye for their needs in the future.

Dr. Lund describes his approach to patient care:

There are really 3 traits that come to mind. They may seem contradictory, but they actually work very well together.

• I’m a perfectionist. I give my best effort in every case to get the best possible result. This doesn’t always mean a “perfect” result because none of us can control every part of any process.
• I’m also an activist. If you’re going to be part of something, you should take an active role. I’ve held leadership positions in national plastic surgery societies and am involved in researching new techniques and treatments to benefit my patients.
• Finally, I’m conservative. This means I highly value our patients’ resources and research new technologies to ensure they are effective, safe, and provide value to our patients. Gimmicks and fads are out there, and our patients trust us to do the research and provide them with safe and effective care.
