Surgical Approaches
1cm Incision
This approach will be used when not in conjunction with a facelift. A small 1-centimeter incision will be made inside the mouth on each cheek.
Facelift
Sometimes, this procedure can be combined with a facelift to maximize your results. If is it performed with a facelift, an external approach can be made to remove the buccal fat pads.

What is Buccal Fat Pad Removal Recovery like?
Immediately after:
Swelling of the cheeks, minimal pain that is well controlled with multi-modal oral pain medications. When done through an intra-oral approach, we require a soft diet for 3 days and medicated mouthwash for 3 days.
One week:
For the first week, swelling is mild to moderate. If done through an intra-oral approach, the internal incision is healed.
One to two months:
At one month, the swelling is mild to fully resolved, the contour has improved. You are photo-ready by 4-6 weeks.
Frequently Asked Questions
How will my face look with aging or weight loss?
If you are a candidate for buccal fat pad removal you should not appear to hollow if you lose weight from exercise or natural aging since those areas of fat are separate from the location of your buccal fat pad. Typically those areas of volume loss are on the outer portions of the face.
What is the downtime?
It is a procedure performed in our office with no real downtime. You can return to work as usual.
